The Emergency Information Council will host speakers from the AES Electricity Generating Plant on September 16th at 1:30pm in Clubhouse 3 room 9.
The AES Alamitos Battery Storage System (BESS) was the world’s first stand-alone energy storage project for local capacity. It lies just a few hundred yards East of Leisure World. It was specifically built to replace a gas fired plant to meet peak demand in the evening when the sun goes down. It contains one million lithium-ion batteries in boxcar sized containers, all under one roof. With the increasing incidence of EV battery fires we might be interested in how this installation is being safeguarded from contributing to a disaster for Leisure World.
AES speakers will include:
Michael leads stakeholder relations and community engagement for AES’ clean energy projects.
Mark Miller has served many roles at AES for over 35 years. Jose Perez has likewise held many positions at AES for over 25 years. Both were introduced to power generation during their service in the US Navy’s Nuclear Program.
